Saotome Senshu is a romance/sport manga about a girl called Saotome Yae who's the ace of the boxing club, she confess her love to this scrawny dude called Satoru but he reject her for fear of ruining her boxing career (and having to deal with her fans)

Saotome Teacher see this and hatch the perfect plan by assigning Satoru to become Saotome coach, the two can now secretly date so begin their secret romance, this panel of Satoru having wild fantasies about Saotome toned abs is hilarious Image

i'm surprised this manga isn't more popular among female boxing lover, perhaps it has to do with how masculine saotome is drawn, or perhaps by how very little fighting there is despite the premise or how cliche it feels at times

there isn't much else to say, it's a pretty standard romance/sport manga, the two are shy and it takes forever for them to do any progress and everytime an actual match happens, it's the usual "i must become stronger/put more effort for love" since it's a romance too

it takes 40 chapter for Saotome to have her first serious fight, Satoshi also fight and gets absolutely beaten (because he's weak, and he must get stronger) Saotome opponent taunt her by saying her relation is making her weaker...

...but she ends up kicking her ass by trading heavily, and also because she's in love

around chapter 60, Saotome and Satoshi have a sparring match together, which ends after Satoshi realize Saotome was his childhood friend after he gets hit by a straight Despite Satoshi being weaker, he puts up a good fight because "he's in love and know her every move"

Plot Development!

Chapter 73 introduce this tough policewoman boxer who absolutely obliterate Saotome, cue the "it's not about winning! it's about not giving up!"

then the gang participates in another tournament around chapter 90, Saotome beats up a bunch of random girls, while Saotome Teacher fights the policewoman again

it doesn't end well for Saotome Teacher, dang that is a nice uppercut pic
