Crying does not instantly mean death. It can mean death. Sometimes it does mean death. But it should not be the knee-jerk response as a sign of what's going to happen; met with scorn when it doesn't occur.
I remember seeing this for the first time and thinking, "Freezell?"
There's also Final Fantasy written on the side of a book in Drum Castle (along with The Shining, Dr. Dolittle, and others) however, those were not written by Oda so not relevant.
