Io yells that a lot of soldiers died on account of a rotten plan, to which Andy asks whether he should've foreseen the total irregularity of Daryl's newtype awakening. He says he's an oldtype, so he can't possibly see time like Newtypes.

Io learns that his father used the know-how of space colony construction to build this: humanity's largest terrarium in history. The trip to Jupiter changed Otto. Someone had to protect the fragile planet. Humanity has foolishly devoured it...

So, the city is basically a giant time capsule entrusted to the future for the rebirth of Earth. Io learns that this was the other "child" that his father had loved.

It is here that we learn Io's father killed himself. Side 4 was reduced to rubble and he lost hope at the unfathomable stupidity of mankind, so he chose to leave this world. Thus, Andy decides to pick up the mantle, deciding that mankind is far too foolish to pin hopes on.

To protect the light of hope, humanity must submit. The immense power from a race of giants is needed. So, there you have it.
