Another subplots in this manga are also not that common in shounen genre. Family matchmaking, doing side-job because overclocking doesn't pay you enough, also quitting OverClocking because OverClock isn't actually your forte, etc.
That's pretty much realistic take on life.
Also, the author doesn't hold back at lampshading the genre and leaning on the 4th wall.
And it seems not many readers recognize the numbers the bitch sage said. I kinda feel for her.
“Days of Tatsuya Hiruta with Cats
When I was unemployed I lived happily together
with my 7 cats. But then a great Chuetsu-oki Earthquake struck Niigata in July 2007. Soon after, a fire broke out, and out of my 7 cats, 6 passed away…
The only one who remains with me now is Mira"
The only "shonen"-esque aspect from this manga is how the protagonist checks the progression of his overclocking by relying on his keen sense of hearing, because he's a musician.
Overclocking doesn't need to be always useful in daily tasks. It's similar that an F1 race car isn't needed in daily transportation. It basically tests your computer power, and in this topic, it's about speed and durability and how you can manage your CPU's performances.
