For this scene, Hoshina uses オモロい which is a Kansai-ben way of saying 面白い (interesting) so instead of making it "interestin'" I shape the language around the word. "We've got" instead of "we have," "folks" instead of just "people." Respectable, but somewhat relaxed (4/6)

So, normally, you just contract a bunch of gerunds and make him talk like a hick and that's it, right? Nah. Hoshina is obviously competent, so making him sound intelligent is important. He uses keigo just like anyone else, but still has Kansai-ben in there. Prudence is key. (3/6)

Hoshina has fairly standard Kansai-ben usage. Instead of だ he uses や and instead of してる, he uses しとる, ちゃう instead of じゃない/違う. However, he doesn't go full Dinosaur Ryuzaki/Sendo by using ワイ as his first-person pronoun, opting for 僕. Standard stuff. (2/6)

In Kaiju No. 8, the character Soshiro Hoshina speaks with Kansai-ben. I've always had the stance that there's no generic "way" to translate accents. It should always be a case-by-case basis with an assessment for what char you're writing for. (1/6) #KaijuNo8 #怪獣8号

Undead Ch 35. This little exchange between Andy and Shen made me laugh. The Kinto'un depending on the work has two diff conditions for being ridden: "Being a 仙人(sage/hermit)" (Journey to the West) or "being pure of heart" (Dragon Ball.) Maybe it's the latter? 😂

@DougDinsdale Though, I have to say that my approach varies by example. In general, I just try to get the basic gist of the two meanings and incorporate them if there's stuff like Undead Unluck does, where whole words are different like in this example. (The word "change" here was important.)

Kaiju No. 8 Ch 12: This line, as unassuming as it may seem, took me quite some time to get exactly right... and even the version I submitted was kind of on the chunky side. (Thank you, editors🙏) A more rigid approach would make this line sound clunky as all hell. #AmTranslating
