Undead Unluck 147: "Buroja" just might be an anagram for a certain Federation location and these two just might be based on a couple of AEUG pilots 🤫
#10【Billy】The supposed Negator of Unbelievable. Billy's first name comes from "Believe"...or so we are led to believe...? Also connotations with gunslingers (Billy the Kid) but I sure do regret not calling him "Belie"... (※I am lying.)
Hi, That Annoying Manga Translation Guy here. If you or anyone else you know has bought Destroy All Humans, feel free to snap a pic of it and tag me. I will RT the everloving crap out of you 👀
Undead Unluck 108: Rip's last name "Tristan" could be a reference to the legend of Tristan and Isolde, where a knight is involved with two princesses both named Isolde. This would also explain why he's after the Roundtable (see: knight) and the Mirah sisters' names.
So how does that pertain with our culprit? Well, notice the first letter of his speech. 相生(あ), 良い(い), 嘘(う), えらく(え) → Ah, Indeed, Using, Extremely. That's right, he's speaking according to the Japanese syllabary. (4/7)
For the curious, in the Japanese volume release, the pages explaining the Soccer Arc in You-Me were revised to use the rewrites I provided in the EN version, which is also a huge honor!! (Pictured: WSJ, V5, Simulpub Undead ch 37)
Undead Unluck 138: Small panel, but has a bit of everything. ①"Mobile games" is added to contextualize the concept. ②"Reroll" = リセマラ (reset marathon) and added a quip over repeating リセマラ. ③"Hold the phone." Common ちょっと待って TL, but plays off the preceding lines.
Undead Unluck 91: The bubbles in Japanese overlap the ノ in 元カノ (ex-girlfriend) but can't really do that in English, so it had to be a regular interruption. Also, Fuuko uses keigo to signify how peeved she is, so I changed her tone in a similar way in English.
Kaiju No. 8 Ch 24: It was important to have "leader" in the last panel here. Although the Japanese sentence structure when translated into English would see the subject ("leader") at the start, it loses the gravitas of the reveal, so I had to rework it to retain all elements. 1/5
As soon as I heard GG has a backstory manga, I immediately assumed it would probably have a somewhat passable translation and a craptastic lettering job
BEHOLD OPTIC BLAST
Not quite the example I was thinking of, but it's funny this happened right after I mentioned it last week lol. (From Undead Unluck Ch 202.) https://t.co/i49GJYUy0k
Undead Unluck Ch 46. I really wanted "soul" to be in the last bubble like in the original, so I toiled to rewrite the sentences so that they had a natural flow leading up to it. As I wrote and read it aloud, I think it hit the right gravitas, so I hope it did for the readers too.
