The creatures in universe are called 禍 (maga) which means "disaster" or "calamity." Here, Alma says that it's 大禍時 (oomagatoki) "twilight"/"the witching hour," but since it's also referring to the creatures as well, I opted for "disaster hour" to drive the point home.
Alma's little Tao ditty here is actually the jingle for Haseko Construction. There are variations, but usually goes, "I know apartments complexes. I know them because I've built them. Taratata ta ta." The dialogue here is actually timed to the song. https://t.co/ZMgzm5444D
Undead Unluck 147: "Buroja" just might be an anagram for a certain Federation location and these two just might be based on a couple of AEUG pilots 🤫
Here, though, it's a depiction of からまり大蛇 (karamari daija) which is "coiled/tangled big snake." 大蛇 shares the kanji with おろち (orochi) the multiheaded snake god. Instead of a cool deity, it's a buncha snakes coiled like turds, lol.
Some of the Japanese signage and stuff in City Hunter needs to be exclusively subtitled for specific reasons. I've made sure that the important details are translated and placed competently on the page, though. Messy typesetting can ruin an experience, after all.
so between city hunter and undead unluck's boxing chapters, that gives me enough credentials to translate hajime no ippo, right? that's how it works, right? right????
Extra: The peek-a-boo style is a defensive boxing style where you tuck your hands inward. Provides better blocking, bobbing, weaving and jab placement. Main style used by Mike Tyson. See also: Balrog from SF (inspired by Tyson) and Hajime no Ippo's Ippo (also inspired by Tyson.)
Undead 143: The people affected by Nico's memory wiper see Fuuko as a guy (rules of boxing prohibits intergender matches) while Void doesn't bc Fuuko wanted to be totally honest with him.
Ichigoki Ch 7: "The ball is your friend" is a famous Captain Tsubasa quote. Meanwhile, the dialogue on the left is a play on the quote from Yamamoto Tsunetomo's Hagakure: 「武士道と云ふは死ぬ事と見つけたり」"The way of budo is found through death."
See, told ya'll :^)
