I never really explained the way I phrased Fuuko's unluck before, but essentially I use "stroke of unluck" wherever "unluck" by itself would look awkward, since "unluck" is a rather uncommon English word. (1/3) #UndeadUnluck #アンデラ

Kaiju No. 8 Ch 37: Since this marks a turning point for Kikoru where she DOESN'T call Kafka by his full name, I opted out of "idiot" for バカ. While I couldn't mimic バカカフカ (Baka Kafuka), I tried both "buffoon" and "clod" to mimic the respective sounds. Clod made the cut :)

Ch 3: Tatsuomi is from Kansai region, so he speaks in Kansai-ben. Since everyone speaks pretty gruff in this series, I tried to make him sound distinct enough from Alma & Tao. Here's a thread bout Hoshina from K8 where I tackled this as well. https://t.co/TN3ITLEV6j

Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 99: I just liked my TL for this line. The phrase 指をくわえる (present-perfect imperative form 咥えてろ) basically means "to keep a finger in your mouth." This invokes an image of someone enviously looking on while biting/sucking on their fingers.

Undead Unluck Ch 174: Totally forgot about this part. What Latla is doing here is very similar to the custom for eating 恵方巻 (ehomaki/lucky direction roll.) Lucky directions are dictated by 歳徳神 (Goddess of Lucky Directions) Toshitokujin's position. (1/2)

Kaiju 42: I liked this panel for a few reasons. ①Keeping the setup from the original (build is in the 1st panel, reveal in the 2nd.) ②Translating the word with 20 billion EN equivs 厄介 (yakkai.) ③Integrating 狙いを持つ (nerai o motsu/having a goal) in a non-clunky way.

アメリカ合衆国の地理の話だけど今週のアンデラ14話で登場する「自由の女神」と「エンパイアステートビル」が一箇所にまとめられている2コマ、NYとネバダとの距離的にはなんか違うなぁと調べてみたらラスベガスの「New York-New York Hotel」という所でした！もしかして先生が行ったこと...? #アンデラ

MamaYuyu 20: This dumb joke the mascot makes took me so long. He says "交通の便も僕の便もとっても快調さ!!" (Koutsuu no ben mo boku no ben mo tottemo kaichou sa!!/"Public transit and my poop are both really smooth!!) with 便 being the common link (means service but also dung.)

Kaiju No. 8 Ch 12: This line, as unassuming as it may seem, took me quite some time to get exactly right... and even the version I submitted was kind of on the chunky side. (Thank you, editors🙏) A more rigid approach would make this line sound clunky as all hell. #AmTranslating
