The word for "boxing" in Do Retry is 拳闘 ("kentou"/"fist fight".) In modern day Japanese, most words that have a loanword are usually used instead, primarily in sports with some exceptions. (Baseball is still yakyuu/野球 etc.) (2/6)
Ch 4: The gag talked about here is the 熱湯風呂 (nettouburou/boiling bath) is a bit by ダチョウ倶楽部 (Dachou Club) where one of them (usually the late Ryuhei Ueshima) would balance over a tub of hot water screaming not to push him in only to get kicked in. Comedy ensues.
we decided to keep the spellings as-is and use any moment later on to expand upon the meanings for the audience. ("Kingdom of Hi, the domain of fire" or something like that.) The 1st episode already packed in so much lore, this felt like the right decision.
Undead Unluck 37: Also of note, the manga that Fuuko brings is actually the prototype one shot of Undead Unluck from many moons ago. So, it's a bit more meta than it being the manga you're currently reading. It's the manga BEFORE the manga you're reading... #UndeadUnluck
i tell c Ch 10: The new chief of criminal investigations speaks with a lot of English loan words. (Example: 初舞台 becomes "はつステージ" = "first stage" and 勉強 becomes スタディ) but sometimes even his SFX/drawn aside dialogue is in English. (あんがー = anger)
Undead Unluck, the best isekai. https://t.co/3RBZDwYWqV
Gokurakugai Ch 7: Alma says 腕が爆弾アイスになる! "my arms are turning into bakudan ice." Bakudan Ice is ice cream in big bulbous rubber tubes that you snip at the tip and suck. You can end up squeezing too hard and it goes everywhere. https://t.co/h0RuElq7tp
Some of the Japanese signage and stuff in City Hunter needs to be exclusively subtitled for specific reasons. I've made sure that the important details are translated and placed competently on the page, though. Messy typesetting can ruin an experience, after all.
Not to say there's not goofy stuff. Here the kappa says he's pulled out their anal orbs or "shirikodama." The shirikodama is an orb that rests in your anus that kappas suck out if they drag you in the river. This lore comes from distended anuses found on drowning victims. Neato!
